Most families start thinking about summer in March. By then the programs worth applying to have already closed. The most selective research programs, academic institutes and internships take applications between November and early January, which makes this the month the decisions get made. Mary, a Harvard Former Admissions Officer, puts the real deadlines on screen.

MEET YOUR HOST

Mary graduated from Dickinson College and returned to her alma mater as Assistant Director of Admissions, where she read thousands of applications. She went on to read applications at Barnard College and at Harvard Law School, and has served on committees covering athletic recruits, first-generation, low-income and international applicants. She has taught in Philadelphia public high schools, run college application workshops for Native American students, and taught SAT preparation and application writing in Boston and Manhattan. Summer planning and interest exploration are the work she does most.
