Duke University Former Admissions Officer
Nam
The early decisions are in. Somewhere in your student's school, a senior just got in, and another one with a nearly identical transcript did not. If your student is in 9th, 10th or 11th grade, that gap is the most useful thing you will see all year. Nam read applications at Duke, and he takes this year's results and works backwards through them.
What You’ll Learn
-
What the Results Showed: This year's early outcomes, including why deferral rates have collapsed at some schools.
-
What the Admitted Had in Common: Three things, none of which were test scores.
-
The Three Recurring Problems: What shows up again and again in files that do not make it, and why each is far cheaper to fix in 10th grade than in 12th.
-
For Seniors: What a deferral actually means, and what belongs in a letter of continued interest.
